Food Review: Alfredo's Steaks, Tomas Morato QC

Steaks are every meat-lover’s comfort food. But sometimes it’s not as comfortable in the pocket. So when I saw a deal from Alfredo’s Steaks in a Group Buying Website, I knew I had to purchase a voucher. For P399, you’ll get P800 worth of voucher applicable to any food and drinks. I purchased 2 vouchers so I only paid P798 for P1600 worth. It’s a steal!

I was supposed to redeem my voucher a few weeks ago but typhoon “Falcon” struck Manila so I had to cancel my reservation. I decided to go last Sunday and reserving a seat was quite smooth even though I just texted (yes, through text!) a day before.

Going to the place is just as easy. It’s along the famous strip of bars and restaurants along Tomas Morato. If you’re coming from the Boy Scout Circle, Alfredo’s Steaks is just a block next to Jollibee.

Upon entering the establishment, you will smell a slight aroma of barbeque. A staircase will take you to the 2nd floor which serves as their dining area. The place is warm and homey. Most of the interior is made of wood, perfect for that steak ranch feel.

They offer buffet every Sundays* so me and my friend were deciding whether to avail it or order A La Carte. We chose the latter.

As starter, we had complimentary bread and butter. Next we had their salad and soup of the day**. I liked the spicy mushroom soup. Good way to start a heavy meal.

Next we had their Cowboy’s Special Platter (P575). The platter includes 3 pieces of shrimp kebabs, 4 spicy chicken fingers, 4 pieces of potato halves and onion rings served with 3 kinds of sauces. I loved the kebabs. I think the shrimp is wrapped in bacon and it’s really delicious. On the other hand, the chicken fingers is a bit bland and dry. The potatoes and rings are just OK. The serving is quite big for an appetizer and could serve 2-4. Try to go easy on this as you would want to save room for their main course.

After about 45 minutes of waiting time, we were served their bestselling Ribs and Steak Duo. This comes with 200 grams of Tenderloin Steak, 6 slabs of Baby Back Ribs, corn and sidings, and a choice of rice pilaf, pasta, potato wedges or mashed potato. We chose pasta, but they said it is still being prepared, so it came a little later. The meal could serve 1 or 2, depending on your appetite.

The Tenderloin Steak (medium rare) is perfectly cooked. The meat is really tender and juicy, though I didn’t find it as flavorful as expected. The gravy that comes with it is really good. The Baby Back Ribs, smothered with barbeque sauce, is juicy and flavorful. But I would have wanted it more if the meat is falling off the bone.

About another 20 minutes later, we finally got the pasta that comes with the main course. It’s just a simple pasta in herbs and olive oil so I have no clue why it took that long. It tastes just OK.

I wanted to try their desserts but I’m already full. I’ll try to keep that in mind if I come back to Alfredo’s.

So here’s my verdict:

Food   3.5/5

The food is okay and the steaks are quite delicious. Though it can still be improved, if they want to be at par with other restaurants serving better steaks and ribs.

Service   (4/5)

The waiters are courteous and attentive. Just don’t come in too starved, or else you might lose patience while waiting for the main course.  It’s nothing that a light appetizer or complimentary bread couldn’t fix though.

Ambience   (4.5/5)

The place is warm and inviting. Perfect whether you’re in for a casual dining with family/friends, an intimate dinner or a business meeting. The place tends to get busy on the weekends so better plan ahead and reserve a slot.

Value for Money   (4/5)

Some may find it pricey but some food items come in big servings so you may share it with a friend.

Overall   (4/5)

I would recommend this place especially if you need a quick fix for your meat cravings. They managed to keep the place in between casual and fine dining. I felt “sosyal” and comfortable-at-home at the same time.
